Jamiel Foster, a singer and songwriter of reggae, was born in 1992 in Portmore, Jamaica. As a young child, he was immediately drawn to music. By the age of 12, he was performing and writing original songs, and by his teenage years, he was striving toward a career in music as a full-time occupation.

Early on, he went by the stage name Culture Jamiel, but as his musical taste developed, he changed it to simply Jahmiel.
