Canadian musician Keinan Abdi Warsame, better known by his stage name K’naan (/kenn/, is of Somali descent. He gained notoriety when Coca-Cola selected his song “Wavin’ Flag” as its promotional anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In addition to hip hop, K’naan’s music incorporates aspects of global music and Somali music. Additionally, he participates in numerous charitable endeavors.

K’naan was born on February 1st, 1978 in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia’s Banaadir province. The K’naan family had a history in the arts. Both his aunt Magool and his grandfather were well-known poets and singers.
