Mahendra Kapoor was an Indian playback singer who lived from 9 January 1934 until 27 September 2008.
His discography included well-known songs like Chalo ekbaar phir se Ajnabi ban jayen hum dono (Gumrah) and Neele Gagan ke tale during the course of a long career spanning decades (Hamraaz).
However, the patriotic songs that he was most closely connected with were those like Mere Desh Ki Dharti from Manoj Kumar’s Upkaar. He frequently stated that Mohammad Rafi was the greatest vocalist to have ever been born and that he was his master.
He received the Padma Shri from the Indian government in 1972. In the majority of his films, he provided the voice of Manoj Kumar, an actor, and he was longtime friends with producer-director Baldev Raj Chopra.
