Born Matthew Smith, Rygin King spent his formative years in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

He had a passion for music, and when he first started writing songs as a teenager, Buju Banton served as his main inspiration.

King had a management team in place by the time he was in his early 20s, and he had his sights set on a career in music.
